THE PERILS AND HUMOR OF MOTHERHOOD....

The 'what's what' in our little hut.

The GOOD STUFF

I've moved!

This blog has been officially transferred to WORD, printed and bound.
When my daughter is older (she is 2 1/2 now) she will have a 370 page bound, chronologically
correct account of her young life.

Oh dear.....what have I done??

:)

Soon (ok, once all my blogging gals have bookmarked my NEW address) I shall remove this blog from the internet. Until then.....

Please visit me on my NEW blog "The Good Stuff - Life, Love, Laughter - and Screaming Is Allowed."

I hope to see you there!

Movin' On.....

If you can read this - we are close and I appreciate you.

Yes folks, I am moving on. You will understand why when and if you make the decision to follow me to wordpress - and my new blog, "The Good Stuff."

Life has been taking some interesting turns lately, and I now have to remove the poison in my life and realize that a few who I believed were my friends were not. They were what I call "psychological vampires" - they do what they want because it is convenient for them. They drain your energy with their negativity and make you feel as miserable as they do. Then they conspire against you and make you the scapegoat for all of the things they refuse to deal with in their lives.

Nuff said - I'm moving on.

Join me, won't you?

GOIN' OFF THE RAILS ON A CRAZY TRAIN.......

CRAZY - BUT THAT'S HOW IT GOES.....

Photobucket

Yes, folks - I am slowly going crazy....ok, not really - but I noticed alot of people in my world are!

Lee has had enough of winter....mechanical break-downs, stress due to the extreme cold and keeping our woodstove pumping out the heat.....and a newly-rebellious two year old we lovingly refer to as "The Mouse."
I can see where he is coming from, but I am trying so very hard to maintain sanity so he can see there is spring on the edge of this winter!

Photobucket

So, instead of whining and moaning AGAIN (seems I have done alot of that lately) I decided to turn my frown upside down! I shall see the sunshine through the rain and make this blog entry fun! Here we go!

THE CRAZY TRAIN...A RIDE INTO INSANITY....

STOP #1

MR. OZZY OSBOURNE

Photobucket

Stop #1 on this "crazy ride" is the 'Crazy' man himself - Mr. Ozzy Osbourne! He has survived massive drug use, biting the heads off of bats (ok, it was just one), a demanding but oh-so-cute wife and a rock lifestyle that SURELY would have killed Jerry Garcia!! His legendary song "Crazy Train" is all ya need after an insane day in the not-so rock n' roll world.

STOP #2

CRAZY HORSE

Photobucket

Uhhhh....huh! He looks a little crazy, doesn't he??

Born on Rapid Creek, S. Dak., near the present Rapid City, Crazy Horse (Tashunca-Uitco) was a strange, quiet Sioux youth, serious and thoughtful. His skin and hair were so light that he was mistaken for a captive white child and was called "Light-Haired Boy" and "Curly."

Crazy Horse grew to manhood wild and adventurous, implacably hating the reservations and the encroaching whites. He married a Cheyenne girl and thus had close ties with that tribe. After he came to prominence as a warrior, many Cheyenne followed him.

Crazy Horse probably participated in the Sioux wars of 1865-1868 but as a warrior, not a leader. By the last of these wars, in 1876, however, he had risen to prominence. He and his followers refused to return to the reservation by Jan. 1, 1876, as had been ordered by the U.S. Army following the outbreak occasioned by the Black Hills gold rush. Crazy Horse and his followers bore the first burden of this campaign. Their village of 105 lodges was destroyed by Col. J. J. Reynolds on March 17. The Native Americans' horses were captured, but Crazy Horse rallied his braves, trailed the soldiers 20 miles, and recaptured most of the horses. On June 17 he and 1,200 warriors defeated Gen. George Crook and 1,300 soldiers, turning them away from a rendezvous with the forces of Gen. Alfred Terry.

Crazy Horse next moved north, where he joined with Sitting Bull's followers on the Little Bighorn River. On June 25 he was in command of the warriors who massacred Gen. George Custer and 264 soldiers. Then, with 800 warriors he went into winter quarters in the Wolf Mountains near the headwaters of the Rosebud River. On Jan. 8, 1877, the village was destroyed in an attack led by Col. N. A. Miles. Crazy Horse continued to fight for 4 months before surrendering on May 6 with 1,100 men, women, and children at Red Cloud Agency near Camp Robinson, Nebr. An army officer there described Crazy Horse as 5 feet 8 inches tall, lithe and sinewy, with a weathered visage; wrote Capt. John G. Bourke: "The expression of his countenance was one of great dignity, but morose, dogged, tenacious and melancholy.... He was one of the great soldiers of his day and generation."

On Sept. 5, 1877, the officers at the post, convinced that Crazy Horse was plotting an outbreak, ordered him locked up. Crazy Horse drew his knife and began fighting. In the struggle he was mortally wounded in the abdomen, either by a soldier's bayonet or his own knife. His death deprived the Oglala Sioux of one of their most able leaders.

(never say you don't learn while blog reading!)

PATSY CLINE - "CRAZY"

Photobucket

PATSY CLINE, (Virginia Patterson Hensley), was born in the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, Virginia, on September 8, 1932. The family home was in nearby Gore. Legend has it that she was entertaining her neighbors as early as age 3! Her natural talent and spirit took her to the top of the country charts in 1962, and her style and popularity has never waned.

Patsy's big break came when she won an Arthur Godfrey Talent program in 1957 with the hit Walkin' After Midnight. From there she pursued a recording career appearing at the mecca of country music - the Grand Ole Opry in 1958, and received national awards in 1961 and 1962.

Country music lost a magical entertainer when her career was ended in an airplane crash in Tennessee, in 1963.

In 1973 Patsy was elected posthumously to the Country Music Hall of Fame, and her reputation is on record as one of the major female vocalists of all time.

A bell tower has been erected in her memory at the Shenandoah Memorial Park, where Patsy Cline is interred. Several Highways, including the Patsy Cline Memorial Highway, Route 522, and Patsy Cline Boulevard in Winchester, have been named to commemorate her life.

I USED TO BE SNOW WHITE - BUT I DRIFTED

Snow White

Photobucket

 NOT so Snow White

Photobucket

OK - that was a joke....but we are still talking SNOW, people! As in....

snowflake snowflakesnowflake snowflakesnowflake snowflakesnowflake snowflakesnowflake

**I have been snowed in since Thursday

**My car has SNOW covering it almost entirely.

**SNOW is violently blowing around my yard

**Lee has been plowing snow for 3 days - 20 hours at a time.

**Darby and I have been ALONE since Friday because Lee has to sleep SOMETIME!

globe

It all sounds quite tranquil, I know. Being in a warm toasty house in the absolute middle of nowhere during a wind and snowstorm that makes it impossible to head to town for even the simplest of things....no human contact besides the family - and that's sporadic in itself...a mere phone call..you start talking to yourself....not sleeping....daydreaming....kinda reminds me of a movie I once saw.....

Photobucket

Oh, come on - it was FUNNY!!

The weekend has been fine, actually - but I sure hope I get out tomorrow morning for work! Apparently the highways are snow covered and the wind is still really bad - so we'll see! Our road blows in bad enough we can't get out. I know Lee is the plow guy - but he has to do the School Bus Routes first - and until Darby goes to school...we aren't one. Ya gotta love the country!

What the World Needs Now.....

What the world needs now.....is for people to smarten the f*** up!

That famous quote "I'm mad as Hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!" is from the movie "Network," but I find myself thinking more and more along those lines these days. Now, I'm not always mad - in fact, I rarely allow myself to get REALLY mad.....but there are some things I have to shake my head at and go WTF???

Today is my venting day.....self proclaimed of course.....so vent I shall!

Photobucket

Generally, I am SO ticked off at what I read in the papers these days.....

so I will include some of those for you too!

VENT #1: POLITICS

Photobucket

There is no such thing as good politics.
I mean, I never used to vote because my theory is this: An election is all about who you believe is bullshi**ing you the LEAST. If you're wrong - well, hey - good try....maybe next election you can get it right. Until then, you can just deal with whatever THEY decide to do to you. My dad tells me that when the Conservatives led (with Mulroney) he paid some astronomical interest rates through the bank due to the mortgage rates. Something like 19%!!!
I would move.....far....like Guam.

I say shut up already, politicians - you are full of crap and I think my ears are bleeding
 from listening to you.

Photobucket

VENT #2: PANCAKE BATTER

Photobucket

Sounds harmless....right??
WRONG!!
Pancake batter makes me angry....LOL...sometimes.
Picture it - Saturday morning with the family....the bacon is crisp, the hashbrowns are salted and the toast is warm and buttery.....you're making pancakes to top it all off - sitting down with a big glass of orange juice....but something's wrong.

The first pancake out of that pan NEVER works out for me! By the time I scrape the gooey mess out of the pan to start over, I just want to dribble the batter down the sink and give up! My Grandmother claims the pan isn't hot yet. I have tried to rectify that issue - and it's not the cause of my ruined pancake.
Any ideas?

VENT #3: THE ROBERT LATIMER CASE

This one really gets to me - mainly because I'm not sure where I stand on it.
If you don't know the Robert Latimer case, he is the father that (in 1993) 'murdered' his 12 year old daughter, Tracy. Tracy was severely disabled and her father felt she could no longer deal with her pain. He propped her up in his truck (on their Canadian farm) and used the exhaust to kill her. Now, as saddened as I was to learn this even happened, I can't say anything about the case because it is HIGHLY controversial. I want people to make their own decisions on it - but know this: If it were my daughter and she were severely disabled to the point where the QUALITY of her life suffered as much as she did in physical/emotional pain - I DO NOT KNOW IF I COULD DO WHAT ROBERT LATIMER DID. I know I wouldn't want my daughter to suffer - but I don't know if I could do what he did....I just don't. I'm selfish and would want my daughter here with me no matter what I had to deal with - her QUALITY of life, however is the issue here.
I have not been in that situation - and I pray to God I never will be.

All I have to say is this: If Robert Latimer did it FOR his daughter (to end suffering) - he would be the one to know how bad she was. BUT - if he did it to avoid having to deal with her and watching her suffer (and she had quality of life) then that's a different story. See? I'm torn! I know how heartbreaking it would be - but what would I do? I don't know. I'm weary of the story in itself because it makes my mind spin.

I think of it this way at times: Susan Smith - that horridly brain-numbed woman who drowned her two healthy babies because her new boyfriend didn't want kids. No brainer to me - so why is the Robert Latimer case so hard for me to digest and figure out in my own mind??

You can go Robert's official website to read all about the case and decide for yourself.

VENT #4: CANADIAN STAMPS

Photobucket

When are Canadians going to insist that our stamps have some semblence of cool behind em? OK, OK....they are just STAMPS - but I am sick and tired of licking the back of the Queen's head!! HAHAHA!!!

Photobucket

VENT #5: CHILD ABUSE

Photobucket

When are people in this world going to GET IT??? The problem (one of them)with people abusing their kids is this: I think they believe they have power over a child and that they have the RIGHT to harm them if they want to. WHHAAA?? When I see the newspaper and read that a one year old was left in a parcade in WINTER (no time is a good time but hey....) I get FURIOUS!

Who in their right mind (and that is obviously the problem!) would do such a horrible thing to an innocent child? It infuriates...I mean REALLY infuriates me to think that there are parents/caregivers out there who don't respect their children. I mean - why have kids if you're going to screw them up and make their lives (and yours) full of hurt, pain and fear?

Lee and I (obviously) never had kids before Darby. Yes, there are some days when I feel like I could give her away and never look back - until 5 minutes passes and I calm myself down after one of her tantrums or something simple like that. I know all parents go through it - and we're no different. But to think that is one thing - to act on such horrid thoughts is quite another! Lee and I always do the same thing when Darby decides to act out. She can stand right in front of us and when we ask her to do something, she screams "NO!" right in our faces. We look at each other like "Let's kill her." We both know that is a ridiculous notion and it will never happen.

Instead, we calmly ask her again and even if it takes ten requests, we are patient......to a point. Have we spanked her? Yes - we have. Deal with it. I also know there is a HUGE difference between DISCIPLINING your child through a tap on the bottom and beating them until YOU feel better. Generally, we only tap her little bottom if she is in a freak-out mode and needs a quick little jolt back to reality. Of course, once 'spanked,' Miss Darby acts like it is the end of the world and cries harder, but is now able to realize that her behavior is totally unacceptable to us - and she changes it!

As a child, I was DISCIPLINED through spanking - I'm not sure when, why or how we have gotten to the point where it is SO frowned upon, but I turned out to be a very well rounded, loveable, RESPECTFUL woman - and so will Darby. Those who think it is wrong - let's compare kids in 15 years, okay?? Photobucket

VENT #6: REVENUE CANADA

Photobucket

That logo should read "More Ways to SCREW You." LMAO! It never fails - tax time is upon us and now I keep thinking "Oh goodie - how much will I give to THOSE POLITICIANS" this year?? I think of Revenue Canada as a gigantic tank filled with blood thirsty pirahnas. Yes, those searing sharp teeth are shoved into the mouth of every sappy employee who works for them to create a governmental killing machine.

I bust my *ahem* all year and do what I am supposed to....and Ms. Jane Doe sits at home faking an injury to collect disability....and gets a crapload of money back each year!! How is it fair that the more you make, the less return you have?? Granted - I am a complete IDIOT when it comes to taxes, and I realize the more you make the more taxes you pay - but WHY can an employer NOT figure out how much to take off your paycheque so that you're not stuck paying huge tax bills at the end of the year??

I haven't actually done my taxes for this year, but I dread it. Last year I owed a little money and this year I reeaalllyyy hope I don't. Is it just me or do we always think to ourselves, "When I get my refund, I'm going to......" Lee and I have refused to do that this year (so far)....so maybe things will have a different outcome!

Photobucket

I am not a downer - so I figured we'd end on a positive note. I found a beautiful painting online. With luck, the rain is animated like it is on my desktop! Enjoy!

Photobucket

What the world needs now....is love, sweet love. It's the only thing that there's just too little of.

Truer words were never spoken. So love someone today....before you run out of time.

Until next time - keep blogging!
